The San Francisco Institute on Aging (IOA) began in 1985 as a nonprofit providing multiple services to older adults and is best known for its Friendship Line, a volunteer-staffed suicide prevention hotline serving older adults. With federal funding for discretionary programs on the decline, IOA has pursued additional opportunities in demonstrating the value of these services.
This Aging Today feature article highlights the opportunities sought after by IOA which includes, establishing a partnership with local health plans and developing a comprehensive business plan through The SCAN Foundation’s Linkage Lab. Exploring these measures has allowed IOA to not only demonstrate their expertise in the field but to quantify the value they’re creating as well.
