Research has shown that social isolation can be harmful to the health and well-being of older adults. In fact, its effects have been compared to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. engAGED: The National Resource Center for Engaging Older Adults aims to reduce social isolation by developing tools and resources that can be used by AAAs and other organizations to help older adults stay connected to—and engaged in—their communities.

Join n4a and its partners in engAGED: The National Resource Center for Engaging Older Adults on Friday, September 28 for the live stream of an invitation-only event focused on developing a national strategy to increase the social engagement of older adults in their communities. The event will allow leaders in the Aging Network to provide input on ways we can work together to increase the social engagement of older adults, which research has shown will lead to their improved health and wellness.

During the live stream, engAGED partners will:

• Frame the need for a comprehensive approach to increasing engagement in all communities across the U.S.

• Raise awareness of the various ways to engage older adults

• Discuss the engAGED Resource Center’s charge to develop and implement a national strategy to encourage social engagement among older adults

• Receive input from attendees that will help shape a national strategy to increase engagement
