Making Waves! San Diego VA and AIS Pioneer California’s First VD-HCBS Program

San Diego County’s Aging & Independence Services (AIS) was the first California county to initiate a Veteran Directed Home and Community-Based Services (VD-HCBS) program. It is also one of the few sites nationwide that have successfully ramped up quickly to establish an “Agency of Choice” Model. This presentation walks attendees through the development of this program from the local VA social worker perspective, provides information about outcomes and financial infrastructure, as well as presents the national perspective on Veteran Directed programs. Attendees also heard from a Veteran participant currently enrolled in the program.

Presenters:
Stacey Bjerke, Supervisor, San Diego County’s Aging & Independence Services, San Diego, CA
